Civil / Structural Engineer (I - IV):
Technical Roles / Responsibilities:
Responsible for Civil and Structural Engineering related tasks as assigned, with minimal to moderate guidance, in support of Electrical Substation design.
Perform structural steel, structure anchorage, and concrete foundation design. Generate structural steel and concrete details.
Develop structural analysis model and designs steel structures and equipment support foundations.
Design construction Civil drawings consisting of site plan, grading/drainage plans, and foundation plans.
Apply a working knowledge of common Civil Engineering design codes including IBC, ASCE-7, ANSI/AISC-360, and ACI-318. Preferred candidates will have experience with ASCE-113 and NESC.
Work as the Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer while mentoring junior civil / structural engineer.
Capable of performing complex Civil/Structural Engineering analysis and design, AutoCAD drafting, occasional field work, and other assigned duties.
Assist in the preparation of calculation reports and packages, steel fabrication shop drawing review, and construction submittal review.
Support drafting as needed of construction plans, steel fabrication shop drawings, and other substation physical detail drawings.
Assign and oversee work of designer/detailer staff to efficiently utilize availability of personnel.
Involved in staff and client communication pertaining to specific projects while working towards independent client contact and project management.
Will work directly with clients and provide services such as:
Propose, develop, scope, estimate, communicate, execute, and close projects within budget and schedule.
Manage and coordinate projects.
Ability and willingness to travel as needed within the continental U.S. Travel estimated to be 10%, but could vary and be cyclical.
With minimal guidance, manage projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
2 – 4 years of prior relevant experience in substation engineering with a B.S. degree
1 – 3 years of prior relevant experience in substation engineering with a M.S. degree
PE or EIT w/ ability to obtain PE within 1 year
Comprehensive understanding of the utility grid (power generation, transmission and distribution) system
Comprehensive understanding of the function and application of major substation electrical systems
Strong competence in applying basic theories and principles involved in substation engineering
Expertise in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations
Keen focus on quality and an appreciation for high quality deliverables. Understanding of the importance of quality and quality control in our industry
Experience building / developing teams
Problem solving skills
Strong attention to details
Must have a valid driver’s license
Negative drug test results
